Philippe Starck is a French artist and is one of my favorite contemporary designers. His works are undeniably noble. He does interior designs, which are great, and consumer goods such as houses, furniture, yacht, up until to utensils. He studied at École Nissim de Camondo and found his first design firm in 1968. At the current age of 61, he still lives with all the great opportunities that any artist would ever dream to have. Philippe Starck has been very in demand. His humility makes him more a talented person.
For me, the designer’s most important statement is this, “I don’t work, I dream”. This quote made me smile. It made me realize indispensable matters about labor. I appreciate him for being a zealous person. He has a colorful character indeed.
On the other hand, He is an eco-mania. Two of his masterpieces are the windmills which also functions as a wind instrument and the eco-friendly transportation. He also shops for organic materials.
Philippe Starck is a prominent product designer. He conveys elegance in each project he does. One of his renowned designs is the Juicy Salif. The photograph you see at the left side was made in 1990. It is a lemon squeezer. Its exotic design brought more fame to him. The squeezer has been considered as an icon of industrial design. It has also been displayed in New York’s Museum of Modern Art. It has a diameter of 14 cm, a height of 29 cm, and was made from cast and polished aluminum. The squeezer itself must resist the pressure; soft, easily deformable materials cannot be used. Because the lemon juice is very acidic, the squeezer can only be made out of acid-resistant materials. The product is manufactured by Italian kitchen ware company Alessi. According to the founder of the company Alberto Alessi “I received a napkin from Starck, on it among some incomprehensible marks (tomato sauce, in all likelihood) there were some sketches of a squid. They started on the left, and as they worked their way over to the right, they took on the unmistakable shape of what was to become the Juicy Salif. While eating a dish of squid and squeezing a lemon over it, Starck drew on the napkin his famous lemon squeezer.”

I certainly like the design. It prompts me of something out of this world. If I were to purchase the product, I will never use it. I shall just place it inside a glass cabinet to serve as an eye-catching display. Like what other people say, not all squeezers are meant to actually squeeze. Philippe Starck is even rumored to have said, “My juicer is not meant to squeeze lemons; it is meant to start conversations”
For me, it was considered as an icon of industrial design because of its innovative design. It essentially unveiled that modernism is all around the planet. Modernism is not just linked with architecture; it also acquaintances with other several possessions.
Philippe Starck is definitely a star.

I did put mine on the console table and start a conversation it did indeed. It also squeezed a few oranges already.
